Cofounder and Chairman, 1984-2014
Dr. John Martin cofounded CMB along with Anne Bailey Berman, and served as Chairman until his death in 2014. At CMB, Martin developed some of the earliest examples of transactional questionnaires—using techniques that have become the gold standard in market research today.
He was selected four times to be a member of the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993), serving three years. He was also a judge for the Massachusetts Quality Award from 1992 to 1998. Martin’s work was published in dozens of business journals worldwide including the Handbook of Business Strategy, Directorship Magazine, Journal of Marketing Research, International Journal of Bank Marketing, Journal of Health Care Marketing, Journal of Marketing in Higher Education, the Irish Marketing Review, and College and University.
Martin served on the faculties at Babson College, the Boston University School of Management and at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. John earned his Ph.D. in Marketing at Northwestern University, an M.B.A. in Marketing at UCLA, and a B.Ec. (Honors) from the University of Western Australia.
